Final Video

Storyboard For The Main Task

This is a basic story board to show what we wanted for our project. This is also proof to show that we wanted to have the effect of snipits of the ongoing film.

Changes Which We Made

Many changes were made during the whol of the process of this production. For example, the idea of the Steve Wright murders only came into the media process a quarter into the researching etc.

Many different ideas were being brought forward to add on to the production we had finally had chosen. for example, instead of having the television interview, we were going to used newspaaper reports. This was a mix of real and made up newspapers to add effect.

What could have we inproved on?
Keeping on the same idea and keeping to it. Changing the ideas around made it harder to keep up on what we had to do for our production to work as well as the whole project becoming more confusing than it actually was.

Another thing was that was making it a problem was the organisation skills between the whole of the group. This goes across from sorting out what each person was doing and what they could bring back to the next meet up and then what we could do next. This ended up being a big problem. Not only was it organisation, it was also communination skills, unfortunatly, it was hard to get in contact with each other so that was a disadvantage to our whole production.

Props, Music, Costume and Technology

Props:
These were kept very much to a minumim, the reaon why is becuase we were going for the idea of snapshops of the whole of the movie if this was made to its full extent. this mean that there wasnt really a lot of detailed props used. Our opening sequence was based around action and emotions instead of any real change of pace. This was shown from the music which was played duirng the whole fo the production.

Music:
We did have problems with the music in which we were going to use. FOr example, we did a lot of research into the kind of soundtrack in which we wanted but couldnt find exactly what we needed. However, after looking into specific films related to the genre which we were looking at, the film Sweeney Todd had the best opening soundtrack which we wanted.

Problems did occour after we looked into the Sweeney Todd opening soundtrack, the reason why is becuase of the copyright which did affect what we wanted. However, becuase we were using the music becuase of educational purposes, then we wouldnt be effecting the copyright as much.

Costume:
This was the same as the props, this involved very little detail. however, in the interview, we did look at stereotyes. For exapmple, when we filmed two chatacters as teachers, we placed one character in athletic clothing to portray a PE teacher. Again, we placed another charather in grey, formal suit to portray a history teacher. On the other hand, snapshot photographs were used which involved no characters.

Technology:
The technology in which we used was very little which meant that it was editing the film and adding the soundtrack onto it. Not a lot was brought to make the production more confusing and technilogical than it already was.

Location Shots - Interview

On the interview, we tried to keep as much as we could to how a normal television news report would be filmed. This meant that we kept with the simple non-moving camera. However, during the period of time in which we had to film, a tripod was unable for us to use, this meant that we resorted to filming and with a steady hand. This, thankfully wasn't a problem.

For the interview, we used own of the groups homes, the reason for this is because we wanted to show a comfy but secluded enviroment. This helped on portraying the characters emotions and fearfulness.

With the lighting, we wanted to keep the dark, and secluded atmosphere so I kept a dim light on them. Another reason why the lighting was kept like that was to help portray even more on the charcters emotions.

Location Shots - Photography.

Location shots were kept pretty simple as we had the photographs during the production as well as using interviews to show the public's opinion.

Firstly, with the snapshots, I used the location of Mousehold heath. The reason why i used that particular area is because it was the best place in which I wanted to get the idea of a gloomy, eerie place. Also, I chose quite and cold, winters day so the sky was kept white which helped even better to bring that black and white effect when being that effect in.

Using the strong contrast on the pictures with the black and white effect helps even more to bring the scary, eerie atmosphere to it and that is what i wanted to portray.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Opening Scene

As this film is a series of many, there are some things which are kept in throughout all of them. For example, there is the world known theme tune which is kept at the start of each of the films. Particularly in this film in which the music is played while there is dialogue. However, as each of these films progress, the music becomes more detailed and there is always some kind of change to it. The may be because of the films as well as the music become more and more popular.

Right at the start, there is a small recurring light which brings the first sense of a light in the film as it starts in darkness. as the music is playing, it zooms in to the destination to where the recurring light is coming from where the main character is trying to read a book but the only light which we can use is from his magic wand which is is where the light is coming from, at the start of the opening sequence.

The only dialogue which is being said is the spell in which to make the magical, mysterious spell. the camera then zooms out to so the audience can see the whole of the room in which action can then take place. No real effects are used expect when the Warner Brothers trademark is advertised before the actual film.

This affected our production because of the lighting and how the opening soundtrack can sync in with dialogue. It helped me particularly because it looked into the links with special effects and camera angles can link each scene together.

Taken Opening Scene.

Looking at this particular opening sequence is very different to the other opening sequences i have been looking at. The reason why is because a the start, the credits are kept to a minimum while the film is still going. also, everything else is kept to a minimum as well, music, effects so it looks very much into getting straight into the main storyline.

The best way of how the storyline goes straight into it is how it shows emotions from the main character and what what the situation is going to involve in. This is basically what is in any opening sequence but in this film, it is not shown obviously. in the the first part, it looks at past home videos from the main characters family and on one of his daughters birthdays. this automatically signifies that the daughter is involved massively in one way of another. The way I know it is a home video is that there is an effect of thick black lines which gave the idea of a camera close up to another television. Another signifier to show that it is a home video is from the lack of quality and media compositions. These are purely just to show as memories to who is involved.

Suddenly, the scene changed to the main character waking up which is showing that the home video was simply a personal dream and memory about his family. This shows a strong contrast from happy, comfortable scene to one person in a dark room by himself so show some kind of loneliness.

Location shots for the main task.

For our location shots, we looked into how we used the woods with our snapshots to make a eerie, scary look for what we wanted. As our production was related around the Steve Wright murders so we wanted to show a sense of paranoia and independence. Particularly in the snapshots, I specifically went out to get these photgraphs, I personally edited them so I could get the idea in which I wanted and we all want for our project. This helped with making the rest of the opening sequence so we had particular parts which we could break down what we wanted.

For our actual filming, we used the idea of interviews to show a different perspective on how the murders were shown. For example, when the murders were happening, the media was the best and only way for the public to see and examine what was going on. In our group, we wanted to show how it effected around the town in which it happened and filmed interviews.

Sweeney Todd Opening

In the film, Sweeney Todd, it is based on a true story about a person who has a debt to keep to because of his past and being forced to leave his family etc. He then comes back for revenge but he comes back to see how much change has happened and how his family have adapted to this lifestyle, for example, Todd's daughter has been taken away from him and the judge, one of the most hated people is caring for him but being forced to stay in her room. security is a priority.

Something catches a nerve on Todd and brings a sense of madness. This is shown from how he easily killed other people by hiding his murders by selling the body parts etc. in pies to make a certain business. the way in which it is shown easily is that this particular film is a musical and the contrasts on that.

The opening sequence on this film is showing the dark parts of london in the 1880's - 1890's with silhouettes to help with that scary, eerie feeling in a busy city. Also, there is a process of representation of blood pouring through drains and puddles. This then shows how the film will progress.

This helped with looking at our project has we were going for the thriller genre. also, we wanted to keep with showing the big landscape shots with the strong contrast.

Evaluation of the Preliminary task. 10.02.2010

On our preliminary task, we had to look at a scene in which a character would walk in, to another character who was already in the room. Dialogue is also used coming from both characters. In our project, our genre was a comedy spoof on police drama. This is shown from how serious in which the first 20 seconds are on the investigator (played by Jenni Dack) walking down the corridor into the interview room. The first sign of this short film is the first glimpse of the accused (played by Whitney Mckernan) in which is from the contrast of what she has been accused of.

We had to look at, location, costume and props. Firstly, changes were made a lot depending on where the location was going to be. For example, we were going to film on the Sprowston High School site but because of problems with timing and getting the selected room at a good enough time was a problem. We ended up filming on the actual Sewell Park College site as it was easier and the particular room in which we used was the best for what we wanted for this task.

On the costumes situation, we had to keep the investigator as conservative and smart, as well as it being dark and dull, as we were trying to show the representation of a typical investigator. The smart clothing was kept on during the whole of the short film. The reason for the dark and dull clothing was because we wanted a large contrast as well as the 'joke' in the contrast by putting the accused in very colourful and contrasting colours to bring out the randomness. We decided on the accused to be foreign to make it funnier with the dialogue. For example, one piece of dialogue is when the investigator says 'Don't lie! We all know it's true, we all know you're the murderer!' in which the accused doesn't understand fully what the investigator said and replies, 'What about a hamburger?'. This the main humour in which the rest of the scene is leading onto.

Not a lot of props were needed during this task as it was just a simple police investigating room so nothing was really needed. However, a folder was needed just as a small gesture and to help the audience to see who are the character and to show more of a normal, realistic character.

Planning on Main Task 10.02.2010

Firstly, in our group, we have looked at which genre in which we are planning to do, this is shown from making it as a thriller/drama. Our idea is to make a drama on the media uprising of the Steve Wright murders in Ipswich. It is not going to be a documentary but more of a film representation of it.

We are going to be filming snapshots of gloomy, eerie areas of Norwich to bring a sense of vunrerbility to the production and to the vunrerbility of the victims of these countless crimes. In our group, we are still looking at the way in which way of showing it, for example, we are still deciding on just getting photograhs of the snapshots or filming them but w

ith slight movement. These photographs will be taken in gloomy, dull, maybe even during night time to show more of the representation of a dark place for it to be filmed. As we want to keep on a close representation on the Steve Wright murders, we are keeping away from famliar places in Norwich which we could use for the snapshots. The reason for this is becuase the actual murders were convicted in the town of Ipswich so we want to keep the familar places to a minimum.

Another piece of filming which we are putting into our 2 minute production is a small representation of how the victims of Steve Wright, and actually to all woman who sell themselves for money and to the extremes in which they do for money and the problems in which they get involved in. The way in which we are going to do that is that we will be filming a young lady's legs with high heels running down a dark alley or woods in a state of fear. Also the sense of panic into what it was like to be in that problem and the audience can feel and see what kind of panic they went through.

Finally, as this is only the first two minutes of opening credits, we are doing a sense of that the Steve Wright murders actually happened and to do that we are going to showing snapshots of 5/6 seconds of a brief piece of the news and the uproar of it. This will happen for maybe a bit between some of the snapshots to being the fact of how serious this became during the Suffolk murders. we are doing the sence of doing a few clips from the news and use a few transitions of zooming in/out slowing and fading in and out onto the next piece of news.
